Sun of a Gun

9 Aug

Sometimes, I’m extra-super vain. This is one of those times. I don’t like the way any of the full-body shots turned out, so just imagine the top half of the outfit (seen above) attached to the bottom half (seen below).

I also got a new lens for my camera, and though it does super-neat focus tricks, it also really picks up on details. All of them. I think you can see every vein in my shin. I don’t even look that lifelike in real life. It’s like I’m in HD. (Which I hate, by the way. I don’t want to see the skin imperfections of the actors while I’m watching Vampire Diaries, which I will totally own to watching and enjoying. I just want them to be pretty and get into supernatural shenanigans.)

I wore this outfit to see Sia and Oh Land, who were both amazing. And if you’re not familiar with Oh Land, I encourage you to blast the video below and take a dance break.

I want to ride my bicycle

13 Jul

Technically, it’s Shirley’s bike. But still.

I felt really silly when taking this picture because my friend Alex told me to stick my chest out, but it paid off. Arch your backs, everyone. It makes a world of difference.

I’m wearing a pair of vanity glasses from Urban Outfitters, a thrifted silk top,and polka dot shorts and a camera necklace from Forever 21. I think it’s the bike that makes the outfit, though. What is about bikes that makes them seem so youthful and carefree? Perhaps it’s my flagrant disregard for safety as I refuse to don a helmet lest it mess up my hair.

Lacy late nights

8 Jul

Sometimes (okay, a lot of times) I wear ridiculous things. The particular evening I wore this outfit was no exception. I wore two black lace dresses (you know, for modesty) over my underwear. And a mask I bought in Venice as a headband. Because I’m classy and well-traveled.

Shirley wore a denim jacket that may or may not be mine, amazeballs boots, and killer lipstick. She looks like a sexy Clarissa from Clarissa Explains It All. I dig it. She blogs about music at AD NAHSEAM. She has great taste (obvs, she’s friends with me). Check her out.

More is more

4 Jul

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I have a bit of a thing for accessories. Especially sparkly ones. I think that brooches are a highly underrated piece of  jewelry. They’re like earrings for your clothes. Buy them. Wear them. Enjoy them. Trust me, they’re a game-changer.

I pinned a selection of brooches to my extremely versatile denim jacket. That I wear a lot. Maybe too much? But it goes with everything! I think it’s okay.

I also wore my layered tulle skirt from H&M, a thrifted belt, and Alex’s shoes.

There’s nothing in that cup.

Charming Bloggers

1 Jul

A couple of Saturdays ago I got together with some of the lovely ladies from the DFW Blogger Network. We went shopping at Charming Charlie’s. It’s a magical land filled with rainbows and sparkles and unicorns. OK, not unicorns. But there were tons and tons of rhinestones, which is almost as good.

I wore a hot pink leopard print bra, a black sequined miniskirt, leopard booties, and feather earrings. In one ear. I didn’t buy that headband. I regret it.

This is Elissa of Dress with Courage. I don’t know how we let her walk out of there without that hat. Adorbs.

Julie of rosy+tart and her new camera, Lola. In Julie’s words, “She’s a bit of a showgirl.” So are you, Julie, so are you.

Pretty. Purple.

Garden party

21 Jun

This photo-shoot playtime moment happened in the Community Garden right outside of my friend Shirley’s apartment in south Boston.  It is so pretty. And apparently, very exclusive.  It’s not like a community garden in Dallas where you can just have a plot because it’s Texas and there’s plenty of room here. In Boston, you have to have connections. We don’t, but luckily someone was gardening and they were kind enough to let me pose all over the place.

I bought the dress at a vintage store in LA and the necklace is from Forever 21. This is what I wear when I lean casually against gazebos, a favorite pastime.

That’s not just single-winged eyeliner. No. It’s double-winged. For extra awesomeness.

Dangly earrings and dramatically flared jeans

15 Jun

Are these the best jeans ever or are these the best jeans ever? I mean. Check out my butt. No seriously, do it.  It does not look like that when not in these magical, magical jeans. AND they were $12.50 at Old Navy. Really. And dig my catalogue-y pose.

I wore the magic jeans with these flatforms from the GAP. J’adore.

The ultra-dangly earrings are from H&M and the silk top is thrifted. I am completely unable to resist a shoulder-grazing earring. They blend with my hair if I wear it down and look super dramatic if I wear it up. They’re so versatile!

I’m obsessed with this picture because I think I look kind of tough. Please don’t shatter my illusions. Just let me have this one.
